Hey guys (and gals?)!
Sorry about having to discontinue my membership. It got to the point I just couldn’t afford to make the trip over often enough to justify it. Then in August, the wife left, leaving me with a 2k/month child support bill.
In any case. Last spring I managed to get my foundry operational… One time.
I’d screwed up the consistency of one of the batches of firebrick, and after nearly three weeks of it drying, the firebrick never set up. So I had the brilliant idea of baking it dry. As you can imagine, this idea was only partially successful. It also resulted in the firebrick cracking so bad I had to break it all out and recast it.
I’ve now reached a crossroads. I used up all the sand and plaster I had, but need just a touch more to complete my foundry.
I put out a request for help, and was rewarded by a fellow engineer with a donation of two and a half bags of sand.
I don’t need anywhere near that much, but it was an all or nothing deal.
My thoughts turned to disposal. And, since it was given to me, my natural attitude is to pay it forward.
Anyone want to do a foundry build next week? My “weekends” roll through the week. This week it is Weds & Thurs. Next week Thurs & Fri.
If there is interest, we’d need to plan ahead, there are at least two things you’d need to buy ahead of time, the pail for the foundry, and the bucket used to measure the ingredients and form the fire pit.
Because my foundry is built larger than Grant’s, I used a piece of cardboard concrete tube form as my fitpit mold.
If interested, I’ll be at the open house tonight, we can talk about it.
