Thursday 3-Nov-2016 at noon is the deadline to submit a Knight Cities Challenge Grant application. That is the grant we won last year.
From talking to lots of people I have started writing up 2 possible applications.
Reach Out Maker - Turn Chris’ mobile command center bus into a mobile makerspace and STEAM learning center with a video recording studio space in the back where we can get people to talk about their industrial and maker skills and their work environment. We want to learn about people’s current skills and get them excited about learning about new technologies and skills. The mobile maker space can be used by non-profits like The Make Space and Discovery Space for camps and courses and traveling to Maker Fairs.
Nostalgic City Transformation - Turn College Avenue in State College into a multi-media version of how the community looked like in the 1970s. We will take the historical multiple stitched together photos of 4 blocks of College Ave done by a Penn State Professor and create an Augmented Reality smartphone walk down College Ave. We will have one or more events when alumni and visitors are in town where we transform the store fronts into their past look. Visitors will be able to record their memories about each of the buildings (stores, apartments, restaurants, bars). Visitors will be given reminders about the prior use of each building.
Please share your thoughts on these ideas and other ideas that meet the KCC grant goals and are interesting/unique enough to attract attention from Knight Foundation.
Borth preliminary grant proposals and notes are in The Make Space Google Docs Grants folder. Ask if you don’t already have and would like access.
